The future of AI??? Let’s discuss ‘the elephant in the room'
Who better to ask about the limitations of AI when it comes to heat than AI itself?  As it turns out there is a real “elephant in the room” that no one is discussing when it comes to realizing the incredible potential of AI…. “Heat”.

OK, perhaps the AI generated image above is a little dystopian, nevertheless, it is a good portrayal of the real limitations that heat presents to the future of AI.

Most consumers want the latest AI capabilities on their smartphones and other mobile devices and are willing to pay premium prices to get it.  So how does heat create a serious challenge for delivering the capabilities that consumers want despite device manufacturers promising consumers everything with the latest and greatest high performance AI processors??

Let’s consider it step by step…

1.    AI requires more processing power.

2.    More processing power requires more powerful CPUs, GPUs, and now NPUs.

3.    More powerful processors generate more heat.

4.    More heat requires better cooling.

5.    The lack of better cooling causes throttling.

6.    Throttling slows the processors down.

7.    Slower processors limits AI potential.

The solution: Better cooling!

So exactly why is heat such a problem for realizing the full potential of AI, particularly on compact mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, and action cameras? Again, it seemed a reasonable question to ask an AI engine, after all they have a huge stake in the answers… so we went and consulted ChatGTP and Google’s AI engine ‘Gemini’.  Both are aware of the problems and neither seemed optimistic.

ChatGTP’s response:

Gemini’s response:

Obviously at Frore Systems, we were happy to see that both AI engines, with access to so much knowledge, recognize cooling as a critical solution to the challenges facing the realization of the full potential of On-Device AI.

So, looking ahead, Gemini proposed the following as a critical solution…. “Innovations in miniaturized cooling technologies to dissipate heat more effectively from processors in compact devices”!

Gemini… meet AirJet Mini Sport! The world’s first and only solid-state active cooling technology.

AirJet Mini Sport at a mere 2.5mm thin and weighing only 7 grams… it is ideal for smartphones and all compact mobile devices.  Actually, it over delivers on Gemini’s vision of the solution by being dustproof and waterproof, enabling the support of IP68 devices.  In fact, integrated into a smartphone or action camera for example, AirJet Mini Sport can deliver increased performance by up to 80%. That’s HUGE!

Are you are wondering what exactly is on-device AI? What amazing AI applications might you want and how much additional performance will you need?...  AI is developing so fast it is hard to get a firm number, however current estimates are that tablets will need at least 5 watts more power to handle the current increased performance demands while smartphones and action cameras will need 2-3 W. That’s just today...

There is an endless range of AI use cases, with more being created all the time.  A couple of these incredible technologies that are rapidly growing in popularity include:

Sustained AI Use Cases: Such as AI-enabled gaming and video super resolution or video call real time translation/transcription... these could require up to 10W of power over long periods of time.

On-Demand AI Use Cases: Including circle to search, stable diffusion (text to image), or text to video applications like SORA... these could require up to 15W of power for up to 60 seconds.

Pervasive AI Use Cases: Like the new MS Copilot and other always on assistants... they are always really helpful, but require a consistent 1W of additional power.

But as mentioned, all this additional power requirement also brings an equal amount of additional heat. Unless there is a way to dissipate all that heat, the best processor in the world will throttle and be unable to perform.

This is where AirJet steps in to solve the problem.  Each AirJet can remove up to 5.25 W depending on the SoC packaging type and SoC die temperature, and you can integrate as many as you need, unleashing the full potential of the latest processors to handle the most mind-blowing AI capabilities.

Yes, the need for heat removal is growing all the time... but thankfully, so is AirJet’s ability to remove more and more heat with each generation of solid-state active cooling chip.

When you consider Frore’s Law, which is “our commitment to doubling the performance of AirJet every two years”, Gemini and ChatGTP can ‘sleep well’ knowing that the future of AI implementation in compact mobile devices is assured.

For consumers who want the best ‘personalized experiences, real-time decision making, and enhanced security’… before you invest your money in the latest AI enabled device, make sure it has AirJet, the only innovative waterproof solid-state active “miniaturized cooling technology”.
